Hot. Hot. Hot 〰️

Following on from our previous blog: 5 Top tips to keeping your dogs cool in the summer, and now admist a heatwave, possibly the hottest ever on record, here in the UK… I thought it fitting to write one on some frozen treat recipes for your dog. All you need is an ice cube tray, a lunch box and/or a blender, and a few ingredients!

1) Frozen furrboost

Probably the easiest, if you are a furrboost fan like us, then you can simply shake carton, open it and pour into ice cube trays, pop in freezer until frozen & then pop them into your dogs dish for a refreshing iced treat! You can purchase (or find out about) Furrboost here.

2) Frozen fruit & veg

Simply cut up banana, strawberries, blueberries, melon, carrots, peas etc & pop them in a lunchbox, pop it in the freezer, and then give as treats - super simple, cheapish and refreshing! Remember, dogs cannot have fruit containing stones, raisins, grapes or onions!

3) Bone broth cubes

Cooking a chicken for a cold chicken salad dinner? Boil up the bones to make a tasty bone broth for your dog! To make a broth, you just need to:

  • Place chicken in a large stockpot and cover with three inches of water.

  • Bring to a boil then simmer for 1 hour.

  • Remove chicken from the water and keep for yourself or your dogs dinner - remember to not give cooked bones!

  • Discard all cooked chicken bones because cooked bones are a splintering and choking hazard for dogs.

  • Refrigerate broth to skim off fat before freezing.

  • Pour in to an ice cube tray and leave in freezer until frozen.

4) Peanut butter, yoghurt and banana treats

All you’ll need is: 32 oz Plain Yogurt, 3 Tablespoons Peanut Butter (make sure it contains no xylitol, which is toxic to dogs - palm oil free is a better option too! You can get dog friendly ones, Nuts for Pets do a few different varieties, get yours here.) 1 Large Banana, sliced and 1 Tablespoon manuka Honey for an extra special treat - but not essential.

Then just pop it all into a blender, pour in ice cube trays (you can use a kong if you need a longer lasting chew - just make sure you use a stoppl or a treat on the end to stop it pouring out.) and freeze until frozen!

To be honest, you can be super creative with your frozen treat ideas! You can add pumpkin puree, tuna in brine/water, bacon bits (pureed), cheese, eggs, sausages, yogurt… The list goes on! Frozen treats are so easy to make!

Help your dog beat the heatwave, with the things most dogs love… food!
