Why is Bamboo so eco-friendly?

Its used to build many different items, including houses, scaffolding, cups, plates, cutlery, clothing and more, it can even be eaten!

Bamboo is fast growing, it can grow up to 3ft per day(!), its fully grown in 3-4 months, but fully matures in 1-5 years, rather than 30+ years it takes to grow trees. Its natural, it bio-degrades, can be composted and it does not require harmful pesticides and chemicals, and very little water to harvest.

It also grows from its own root system, so it does not need to be planted again, this means that it does not ruin the soil as it does not get disturbed. The roots also develop a fibrous network which helps prevent soil erosion and landslides as well!

Its strong, even stronger than steel! but it is also light. It is also antibacterial.

It reduces the need for single use plastic and can be re-used over and over again.

It also reduces carbon dioxide 2 x more than trees and can absorb as much as 12 tonnes per hectare, per year! It also produces a 35% more oxygen than trees as well.

There are actually 1,200 different species of bamboo as well, most are extremely adaptable! Some species can be grown in the UK, but most are grown in South east Asia.

Switching to bamboo really does make a difference to the planet!
